Weekend Round Up (1): January in Review

So January was a crazy month… There was a lot of craziness going on at work, which left me extremely stressed out. Every time I went on social media or watched the news I would just get even more stressed out with all of the politics going on. It was just a crazy month, that had me journaling a lot and writing lots of quotes.

& Apparently, February isn’t starting off too great either. I mean, I accidentally deleted all of my blog content. That’s a terrible way to start off the month if you ask me.

Anyway, as you can imagine, January wasn’t a great month for reading. According to my Goodreads Reading Challenge, I’m 2 books behind schedule… On the bright side, I finally finished a couple of books! Let’s recap, shall we?

My reading for the year started off with Deep Blue by Jennifer Donnelly. I’ve owned Deep Blue for a while because of it’s pretty cover and my desire to read a book featuring mermaids. I started reading it because of a buddy read with some of my fellow former booksellers. Ultimately, I got half way and failed to pick it up ever again. I’m contemplating whether or not to set it aside. I think the fact that it’s developing into a story with multiple characters has me put off a bit. I’m not a huge fan of stories with a lot of main characters. Also, I’m not a fan of the cover for the last book AT ALL. It makes me so upset when the rest of them are very pretty.

The second book I started reading was Extreme Makeover by Dan Wells. This book came as the mystery pick for my My Book Box subscription. The synopsis sounded very intriguing, and I decided to leave it at work as my lunch break read. I’m only about a quarter into the story, thus far. I’m liking it, but it is a bit slow going. Or perhaps, I’m just reading it very slowly… Either way, I think the main character, Lyle Fontelle, needs to become more confident and stand for what is right.

The first book I read that’s completed was Blogger Girl by Meredith Schorr. I think Blogger Girl was exactly what I needed at the time. A quick, fun, chick-lit that would make me smile. I won’t get into too much detail about it. If you want to know more, you can check out my review here.

The second book I completed was To Catch a Killer by Sheryl Scarborough. To Catch a Killer was by far my FAVORITE READ for the month. My review will be going up this week for To Catch a Killer. So I won’t go into to much detail. If you love mystery/thrillers and find forensics interesting, give To Catch a Killer a try. Seriously!

For the month of February, I hope to read more, but I’m not sure how successful I’ll be. I’m also hoping to post a lot more on my blog since I lost so much content. We shall see how it goes.

Anyways, I hope you all had a fantastic January. Let me know what you’ve been reading or plan to read this next month. Until next time, Happy Reading!
