The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn was a fun, quick, enemies-to-lovers romance. It just fell short for me in regards to Hadley’s love interest, Will.
In The Wedding Date Disaster, Hadley is depending on her best friend, Web, to accompany her on her trip back home for her sister’s wedding and posing as her boyfriend. The goal is for him to help her get through the festivities with her family. Instead, however, Web’s twin brother and her enemy, Will, arrives. On the flip side, Will is stepping in for Web in an attempt to convince Hadley, whom he thinks is a gold digger, to stay away from his brother.
The Wedding Date Disaster proved to be funny, and it was mainly because of Hadley’s family. Her family is a mix of outgoing characters, and the banter between them all was fun. I also enjoyed reading about Will, someone that grew up in a wealthy family, trying to fit in on the ranch. The antics that Hadley and her family put him through as he tried to prove to Hadley that he could be a cowboy was hilarious.
As the story progressed, I was easily able to sympathize with Hadley. The presence of her family presented a lot of opportunities to dig into her background and see her motivations for all of her actions. Will, on the other hand, was a character I had a lot of difficulties sympathizing with. I think if I was presented with more background on Will or had more scenes with Will, Web, and Hadley together, I may have understood him better. As it stands, however, Will mostly ended up annoying me as the story progressed. So while Hadley grew, I thought Will mostly stayed consistent.
Overall The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn was a fun, quick read. Will wasn’t my favorite, but Hadley and her family made it worth the read. If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers romances, I’d recommend checking this out.
