Hello There, September.

August was a tough reading month for me. I was in quite the slump and struggled to finish any full-length novel. I’m hoping September turns out to be a better reading month, but we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m not very inspired lately to read. I don’t know if it’s the state of the world or just a personal lack of motivation. I’m hoping to get back into the groove soon. This Labor Day weekend though, I’ve found myself mostly watching episodes of Phineas and Ferb. Man, those are fun!

How is everyone doing? Are you all coping alright despite the state of the world?

1. The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (9/1) – Jennifer Lynn Barnes is one of my favorite authors. So it should come to no surprise that I’m very excited about The Inheritance Games. It has been compared to the movie Knives Out, which I did enjoy. So I’m very interested in seeing how Jennifer Lynn Barnes approaches the story of a random high school girl receiving the inheritance of a billionaire she doesn’t know.

2. When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole (9/1) – When No One Is Watching sounds like an interesting mystery centered around the gentrification of a neighborhood. The idea of gentrification can be quite controversial. So it’ll be fun to see how the author plays around with that idea in the mystery.

3. A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik (9/29) – I’ve only read one novel by Naomi Novik, but I’ve always meant to read more. Her writing is quite beautiful and perfect for the fantasy novels she writes. Plus, the idea of a school for the magically gifted where you must graduate or die sounds like a page-turner.
