Well, we made it through the first 6-months of 2020. I think we all deserve a high five for that. The road to recovery is a long one whether you’re talking about the Black Lives Matter movement or the fallout of COVID-19, but I’m hopeful we’ll get through this. Humans are resilient, right?
Personally, I find that taking a step back from social media has helped a lot. Aside from going on occasionally to check-in with what friends are up to, I try to stay away from scrolling into the abyss of social media. There’s just a lot of negativity going on in those platforms. I find that it’s mentally healthier to focus on connecting, listening, and having thoughtful discussions with people I know personally in person or online rather than complete strangers. Honestly, I can’t remember when I last checked Twitter.
I have also been journaling a lot more. Keeping track of the little things going on throughout my day and my thoughts on topics in the news that I’ll revisit later.
I hope that everyone is doing their part to educate themselves on everything going on in the world but still maintaining their mental health.
Most Anticipated Book Releases
2. The Lending Library by Aliza Fogelson (7/1) – I’ve always dreamed of what it’d be like to own my own bookstore. So The Lending Library sounds like a lot of fun. Although, I don’t know how I’d feel having a library in my own home.
3. Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron (7/7) – Cinderella is Dead sounds like a new twist on the Cinderella tale. I love fairytale reimaginings. *fingers crossed* This doesn’t disappoint.
4. The Voting Booth by Brandy Colbert (7/7) – Romances that span a single day aren’t my favorite, but Brandy Colbert has me intrigued with this synopsis. I personally have a love-hate relationship with elections. I think it’s important to vote, but I also have a difficult time seeing the impact of voting. Probably doesn’t help that they often call the winner of presidential elections when ballots are barely starting to be counted where I live.
6. More Than Maybe by Erin Hahn (7/21) – Another book I think just sounds like a fun read. Plus I’m impressed by Vada’s five-year plan outlined in the synopsis. I was also an ambitious teen. Granted, I don’t think I had a five-year plan quite like hers. I support girls with ambitions though, whatever they may be.
7. Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon (7/28) – Rachel Lynn Solomon is an author I’ve heard great things about but have not yet read. I’m very interested in seeing what this “Howl” entails. This is definitely something I’ve never experienced in school.
