Favorite 2019 Reads

2019 is almost over! I can’t believe it. 2010s was a fairly big decade for me, especially since it contains my transition from student to working adult. (Honestly, I still don’t think I have this adulting thing down…) Regardless, I hope everyone is ready for 2020 and maybe even some fresh starts.

As I contemplate what my first read of 2020 will be, I thought it’d be fun to recap some of my favorite reads in 2019 (in no particular order). Please note, that these may not be books released in 2019, but they are all books I read in 2019.

Middle Grade

1. City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab – City of Ghosts surprised me. I never read books about ghosts growing  up. It was a topic I mostly stayed away from. However, I really enjoyed this one! It’s all about Cassidy, her ghost best friend Jacob, and their adventure in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was thrilling and a tad terrifying. I’m still praying that my library will get Tunnel of Bones or that it’ll go on sale. I need to know what happens next!

Young Adult

2. Ask Me Anything by Molly E. Lee – I LOVED THIS! I enjoyed the blog post format. I loved the chemistry between the two characters. & I enjoyed reading such a female positive read. It tackles a lot of tough topics, and I personally thought it was done well. You can check out my review here if you’d like to know more about my thoughts on Ask Me Anything. After reading Ask Me Anything, it totally had me checking out other books by Molly E. Lee, but this is still my favorite of hers.

3. Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – Aurora Rising was one of my most anticipated reads for 2019, and I even preordered it. What I loved about Aurora Rising was the squad and their friendship that developed throughout the story. I don’t read a whole lot of sci-fi, but continuing this series is a must for me. I can’t wait for Aurora Burning and am so jealous of everyone with an ARC of it. XD If you want to read my full review you can click here.

4. 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston – 10 Blind Dates was just so wholesome. There was no way I could not love it. While the story centers around Sophie going on 10 blind dates, it centers mostly about family. It was hilarious and a joy to read. It’s actually a perfect holiday read, if you’re still looking for one. For more on my thoughts, you can read my review here.

Adult

5. Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey – Hotshot Doc was a hilarious romantic comedy from R.S. Grey. I just loved the banter between the two main characters, Bailey and Dr. Matt Russell. They had lots of chemistry. For the most part, I find that R.S. Grey is a solid choice if you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy.
